St. John Lutheran Vineyard Community Garden

The Vineyard at St. John is a garden that offers approximately 60 plots for planting and growing. The plots are available to all those in the Boerne community and beyond. For many years the Vineyard has been utilized by individual community members, as well as by families, and organizations (see below). It is a hands-on place for both young and old to learn the important life skills of nurture, patience, and responsibility.

The Growing Rural Project, a program offered by the Alamo Resource Conservation and Development Area, Inc., plants, nurtures, and harvests at the St. John Lutheran Vineyard Community Garden-Boerne.

In the Spring of 2016, 26 students from the local Boerne Boys and Girls Club began the Growing Rural Program at the St. John Lutheran Vineyard Community Garden. At the time, this program included students from the Boys and Girls Club of the Texas Hill Country-Boerne Chapter, various Home School Groups, and local families. Since then, multiple students and their families have planned, planted, nurtured, and harvested from garden beds at the Vineyard.

The San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness (SACADA) empowers our community to live healthy lives and offers opportunities to strengthen both individuals and families at the St. John Lutheran Vineyard Community Garden-Boerne.

The San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness (SACADA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides education, youth prevention programs, information resources and services to prevent alcohol and drug abuse. This group serves Bexar County and surrounding counties in South Central Texas. Educational programs that include planting at the St. John Vineyard are one way that this organization helps children and adults to learn important life skills, including patience and responsibility.
